Other Prayers of the Bible

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen" (Matthew 6:9-13 KJV)

There are many prayers in the Bible, but the Lord's prayer is our model prayer. If you are stuck in your prayer life, use the prayer our Lord gave us as a model for your own prayers. In it, Jesus praised God, gave Him glory, asked for God's provision, asked for God's forgiveness (for us, obviously, He hadn't sinned), and asked for protection, and ended with more praise. This is a perfect example of what good prayer is all about.

It's also a good idea to turn to the Book of Psalms. There are many great praises there, as well as cries for forgiveness (Ps. 51), mercy (Ps. 41), and healing (Ps. 6). Just reading through a few Psalms aloud is like a prayer.

I've found that writing prayers, or keeping a journal of prayers, can be very effective. Writing regular letters to my Lord has kept me on track and made me feel closer to Him. I can go back and re-read my prayers, and see where there has been an answer to prayer. I can also see where I have grown in my prayer life, which is helpful to me. Just being able to pour my heart out to God on paper is wonderful to me.

The following are simple suggestions for praying God's Word from All About Prayer.

The following are two examples of how to pray God’s Word:

“I command you--be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go" (Joshua 1:9).

Thank You, Lord for being with me wherever I go. I will be strong, brave, and encouraged. I will not be afraid or dismayed. I will pray, and go, and do Your will. I thank You, Heavenly Father. Amen.

"I am leaving you with a gift -- peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give isn't like the peace the world gives. So don't be troubled or afraid” (John 14:27).

Thank You, Lord Jesus, for the peace that You give. I accept this peace, so my heart will not be troubled with the affairs of this world. I thank You, Heavenly Father. Amen.
